ACCESSIBLE - Applications Design and Development

ACCESSIBLE pilots organized in Europe

2011-09-01 10:43

Since September, ACCESSIBLE has been running pilots with designers and developers in various EU countries, and has now also initiated pilot with beneficiaries.
The evaluation of the ACCESSIBLE tools will involve the assessment and improvement of the accessibility level of a set of selected pilot applications (web, mobile, desktop) that are categorised as follows:

  1. Internal applications that have been developed by the project partners.
  2. External applications that have been developed by organisations outside the consortium who will be invited to assess and improve the applications accessibility level with the support of the ACCESSIBLE partners (tool developers).
  3. External applications that have been developed by organisations outside the consortium and for which accessibility assessment will be performed by the ACCESSIBLE partners. The accessibility assessment results will then be communicated to these organisations

The "Target User Groups" consist of two main categories. The first category includes the developers, designers, and accessibility assessors. This category will ultimately benefit the most from the ACCESSIBLE tools and methodologies, providing them the means to assess and improve the accessibility status of their ICT applications and services. Equally, this group also contains the service providers, and the public bodies and governments that will make use of ACCESSIBLE tools to render their services in an accessible manner. The second category includes people with disabilities and/or older people. The disabilities/impairments that have been taken into account in the ACCESSIBLE project include the cognitive, hearing, visual, communication receiving and producing and upper-limb impairments.

Pilots are taking place in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain. 169 developers will take part in the 1st phase of the pilots, and 72 beneficiaries in the 2nd phase.
